The Dawn of Slenderman puts players in a tense experience where they are trapped in a large but monotonous environment, making it difficult to determine direction. Not only do they face darkness and eerie silence, but players also have to collect all 8 scattered pages before Slenderman appears and kills them.

The Dawn of Slenderman Gameplay

  • Strange way to pick up pages: Players cannot simply walk up and pick up the pages. Instead, they have to tap on the hand icon to collect them, which creates a disjointed gameplay rhythm, increasing the suspense as Slenderman can appear at any time.
  • No running system: Players cannot run at all, making every movement slow and full of tension. There is no way to quickly escape Slenderman if he gets close.

Two environments with different challenges

Players can choose between two main maps:

Forest

  • Large but lacking clear landmarks, making it easy for players to get lost.
  • Buildings, stables, stone walls... all look the same, making it difficult to remember the way.
  • Slenderman does not move in a linear way, but instead appears in hidden corners or suddenly disappears, creating a sense of unpredictability.

Suburbia

  • An abandoned neighborhood, with buildings with stairs, old trucks, and hidden corners - all of which can hide pages or Slenderman.
  • The more pages you collect, the closer Slenderman gets, appearing before your eyes or suddenly disappearing when you turn your head.

Confusion and unpredictable haunting

  • Lost in the Forest: Because there are no prominent locations, players can return to the same location without realizing it, creating a feeling of going in circles with no way out.
  • Slenderman appears but does not attack immediately: In some situations, he just stands silently watching from a distance, creating a sense of dread instead of a direct threat.
  • Sudden Death: With no warnings or screen glitches, the player can suddenly lose without understanding what is happening. This is in contrast to many other Slenderman games, where there are clear warning signs when danger is near.

The Dawn of Slenderman is not a typical horror game, but takes advantage of the monotony of the environment and unpredictable moments to create fear. There is no map, no running system, and Slenderman can disappear or appear unexpectedly, making the player feel uneasy all the time. If you want to experience the feeling of being watched without any way to fight back, this is the game for you. If you like newer games then Schoolboy Runaway: Act 2 is a suggestion.
