Everybody Must Die is a horror game blending exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. It places players inside a clinic deep within the woods, where patients and staff seem to be concealing a horrifying secret. Playing as an elderly man, you must navigate locked areas, gather items, solve environmental puzzles, and confront increasingly grotesque creatures.

A Look Inside Goldsworthy Clinic

The clinic is more than a maze to get out of. Patient records, correspondence, staff journals and anomalies on each floor help piece together the history of the facility. Notes regarding treatments, missing patients, and basement activities gradually reveal that the clinic is far more than a standard rehabilitation center.

Notably, the game does not spoon-feed information through lengthy dialogue. You have to find clues in the environment yourself, from abandoned letters to the director's documents. Details that initially seem trivial may become suspicious as you venture deeper into the treatment areas.

Gameplay in Everybody Must Die

The gameplay revolves around three core activities: exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.

Explorations

You will often find locked doors, toolboxes or areas that you can only access after you have found a specific item. So inventory management is very crucial. Cabinet handles, screwdrivers, keys, saws, wooden planks, and other tools all serve specific purposes in opening up new paths.

Puzzle-Solving

Some puzzles require gathering multiple clues throughout the clinic to determine access codes or the way forward. Players must also observe their surroundings to identify usable objects, rather than simply chasing a pre-marked objective.

Combat

Upon descending into the basement, the gameplay shifts toward survival. The mutated creatures are starting to appear more often, some of them able to close the distance quickly, moving at speed. You can deal with them using guns, knives, or other melee weapons. Environmental traps can also prove useful when you are being pursued by a horde of monsters.

What is happening in the basement?

The horror in Everybody Must Die isn't limited to just the monsters. Documents found within the clinic raise a larger question: what exactly did the people taken to the basement endure?

The basement is the core of the entire mystery with brain surgeries, secret treatments and the bizarre transformations of the patients. A pit discovered during renovations suggests that the source of these mutations might not stem solely from human experimentation.

The game maintains a degree of ambiguity between two explanations: the events at the clinic could be the result of cruel experiments, or there may be something beneath the facility that truly defies human comprehension.

Thus, Everybody Must Die blends the clue-hunting exploration typical of horror puzzle games with survival combat, while the narrative unfolds primarily through the environment, documents, and the player's own discoveries within the clinic.
