Bound By Insanity is a psychological horror yandere dating sim that revolves around the seemingly intimate bond between the protagonist and their childhood buddy, Miles. Miles has always been there, always protective, but his concern is becoming overpowering. You and Adrien, a cool, mysterious new kid, become friends when you need a little breathing room, and in the process, the three of you start to change in ways you never planned.

This graphic novel is very much about story, dialog, player choices and relationship building. Beneath the surface of regular talks there are concerns of envy, violence, and control that are so subtle the line between protection and obsession is blurred.

Miles

Miles has been with the protagonist since childhood and views protecting them as practically his personal responsibility. He can be incredibly caring and gentle—such as staying up all night to fix a broken flowerpot of yours.

But Miles has a dark side, too. He freely admits to violent thoughts and won’t hesitate to threaten or confront anyone he believes has hurt you. Interestingly, the protagonist is not entirely scared by this protective behavior, which makes their relationship even more complicated.

Adrien

Adrien serves as a foil to Miles. He is quiet, calm and seemingly unapproachable, but he’s a friendly guy once you get to know him in the classroom.

Adrien quickly becomes someone the protagonist can talk to and get to know better. His arrival not only opens the door to a new relationship but also acts as a catalyst for the rising tension between the protagonist and Miles.

The protagonist is living in a rather unpleasant university environment. Those around you constantly pressure and bully you, while your studies and creative abilities begin to suffer.

Miles is the one who steps in whenever things become overwhelming. He takes you out of the dorm, provides a place for you to stay, and stands by your side through everything. But there's a catch to this protection: Miles is envious, violent to the point of using violence to solve his problems, and doesn't want you to deal with your own life.

The event at the dorm adds fuel to the fire. Miles still takes care of you, makes decisions for you, even when you make it apparent that you need your own place to focus on your life and academics.

Enter Adrien

As the relationship grows increasingly complicated, Adrien enters the picture. He is a reserved, quiet classmate who initially makes little impression. However, after he helps you out in class, the two of you begin talking and gradually grow closer.

Adrien’s arrival creates a new rift between you and Miles. Given the game's yandere elements, the introduction of a third party into this already unstable dynamic can completely alter how the characters perceive one another.

The heart of the gameplay is conversations. You’ll be talking to Miles, Adrien and the other characters in situations ranging from casual conversations to high tension scenarios. The choices you make shape the protagonist's reactions and the development of relationships.

The game also spends a good chunk of time on what seem to be regular moments, like talking in the dorm, going to class, working on art projects or meeting a new friend. It is precisely these everyday moments that lay the groundwork for the shifts in the characters' psychology and behavior as the story takes a darker turn.
