You Make This House a Home is a psychological horror visual novel about amnesia, psychological manipulation and unstable relationships. Players play a protagonist who finds himself in a strange residence with a man called Khol-who is supposed to be their boyfriend. Most notably, the protagonist has no memory whatsoever of who they are or what happened prior to this time.
The whole story takes place on the five days before an anniversary that Khol keeps mentioning. As the players explore the house and try to regain their memories and discover a way out, they slowly learn of many disturbing circumstances about the relationship between the two protagonists.
The game does a great job of generating suspense, continually leaving players caught between trusting Khol and dreading him. There is a mix of conversation, character reactions and surprise jump shocks that add to the psychological horror atmosphere.
The gameplay is mostly about reading the story, exploring the setting and choosing the dialogues. Choices may appear small but there is a clear impact on how the characters respond to you. The current demo has about two in-game days, with two different plot lines for users to experience.
You Make This House a Home is a standout visual novel demo if you’re into dark, strange, and slightly toxic psychological horror tales. After finishing playing, you may also want to check out Ghost City to continue experiencing a similar horror atmosphere.
