Take Out the Trash is an indie game that is deceptively simple. Every day, you wake up. You go outside. You take out the trash. Then you go back to your room and sleep. Since October 6, 2006, as you repeat this routine step by step, your seemingly healthy life begins to fall out of sync.

Take Out the Trash Game Story

In the game, you play as a good boy: not making noise to wake your parents, voluntarily taking out the trash every night, and even contemplating the life of sleeping, taking out the trash, and repeating. But as each day passes—from October 6 to October 14 – you will gradually realise:

  • The air becomes more and more unusually quiet; the sound of cicadas and crickets disappears.
  • The lightbulb in the trash can is bright again in the middle of the night.
  • Strange sounds suddenly ring out.
  • And then, someone or something starts to appear.
  • You hear a knock on the door. You see the TV turn on. The power goes out. And above all, you always feel like something is wrong.

When the horror story begins

Although it doesn't appear too clearly, the game begins to hint at an entity, jokingly called K by the community, that occasionally appears and disappears. It doesn't frighten you excessively, but it only emerges when you're unprepared, such as when you forget to close the door, rush to sleep, or neglect your surroundings.

The game's scenario seems repetitive, but in fact it builds up very slowly. The insecurity builds up every night, making throwing out the trash—an extremely harmless action—gradually become the thing you fear most during the day.

Even though it's just a simple game, with no loading screens, eye-catching graphics, and clear dialogue, Take Out the Trash still maintains its own rhythm. It doesn't use jumpscares too much but lets you feel the instability over time.

This game is a perfect example of the creepy slice of life genre—where you live in a normal loop until it is no longer normal. If you like adventure horror games, don’t forget to explore the game Town of Fears.
