Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger opens with a seemingly normal scene. The player is invited to meet a therapist named Albert Krueger, representing Krueger Health Solutions Corporation—the leading medical group in the G2 district with millions of treatments every year.

You play as Taylor Lee, 19 years old, assigned to a special therapy session called Dream Therapy. Everything seems professional and trustworthy until Taylor begins to realize that this therapy session is unlike any therapy in real life.

Dream Therapy in Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger

Dr. Krueger introduces his therapy as a way to heal the mind. However, instead of talking or psychological analysis, he asks you to perform simple math.

As time goes on, the atmosphere becomes more and more strange. Each calculation is accompanied by unusual sounds, changing lights, and a sudden moment that makes the player wonder what the red substance on the screen is. Krueger keeps his tone light, calling it ketchup, but you clearly know it’s not ketchup.

The Game of Trust in Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger

After the math test, Krueger calls for a break. He asks about life, school, and hometown—seemingly harmless questions that convey the impression of being watched.

Soon after, the therapy session continues with the Shell Game—three cups covering a ball. Only this time the ball is a human eye. Krueger explains that it was donated by a former patient and is perfectly suitable for therapy. Taylor just silently complies, while laughter and strange sounds echo throughout the room.

When Questions Become Threats

In the sequel, Krueger asks the player to close their eyes and answer personal questions. He wants to know about their family, friends, and wishes. Each question is asked in a gentle tone, but when Taylor opens her eyes, the space around her has changed.

The room is filled with shadows and distorted sounds. Krueger asks questions that go beyond the bounds of a normal therapy session, including questions related to violence. From here, the player begins to realize that they are no longer in control.

The doctor leaves the room to deal with a minor incident. In the meantime, Taylor is left with a promotional video for Krueger Corporation, promoting dream therapy as a great step forward in medicine. The bright images and pleasant sounds feel fake, as if they are all part of a propaganda campaign.

When Krueger returned, he kept smiling, saying that the video was a bit old and needed updating. No one knew what was really going on inside this corporation.

Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger is a psychological horror game in the form of a visual novel, exploring the feelings of insecurity and manipulation in therapy. Without needing to scare, the game creates fear by distorting voices, lights, sounds and dialogue, making the player doubt their own emotions. If you like similar games, Entrance to the Soul is a suggestion.
