Short Life is a physics-based puzzle platformer where you control an incredibly unlucky guy navigating a series of traps… No lurking monsters, no traditional jumpscares, but every step carries a unique sense of tension, like you know something terrible is about to happen… just don't know how.
Gameplay revolves around moving, jumping, crouching, and timing your moves with extreme precision to overcome obstacles. From bear traps, chainsaws, mines, and machine guns to things nobody would have thought of like… flesh-eating toilets or self-targeting missiles.
Each level is like a puzzle, but instead of solving it with pure logic, you have to feel the rhythm of death.
The unique aspect of Short Life lies in its body physics system. Your character isn't the kind who can run away after taking bullets like in typical action games. Lost a leg? You can still crawl… but slower, harder to control. The thin line between being alive and not quite dead creates situations that are both humorous and… slightly creepy.
Besides surviving, you can also collect stars scattered throughout the levels. They are often located in more dangerous positions, forcing you to take risks if you want to complete 100%. The reward is new characters, but actually… no matter who you use, your fate doesn't change much.
Short Life is a game that challenges reflexes, with a touch of bizarre and cruel dark humor. If you want something with a clearer storyline, a heavy psychological tone, and lasting haunting moments… then perhaps you should get off the last train at Saihate Station.
