SCP-087: Into the Abyss is a first-person psychological horror game where the player is thrown straight down a dark staircase with no clear end. There's no map, no weapons, and no way to safely turn back. The only things you have are a weak flashlight and the feeling of being watched throughout your descent.

SCP-087: Into the Abyss Game Story

The SCP-087 staircase is located in a heavily concealed area with severely limited lighting; any light source above 75W is virtually useless. The deeper you go, the more unstable the environment becomes: distorted sounds, interfering radio signals, chilling warning messages, and, most notably, the sound of crying babies emanating from somewhere below, whose location is impossible to pinpoint.

The game doesn't rely heavily on a direct narrative but rather lets the player piece things together from their experience. During your descent, you will encounter SCP-style announcements, warning of auditory and environmental anomalies, and the potential appearance of SCP-087-1—an entity described only as a face without eyes, nose, or mouth. It is not clearly explained, follows no familiar pattern, and often appears unexpectedly.

How to play SCP-087: Into the Abyss

The gameplay is extremely minimalist. You only move, rotate your perspective, and interact as needed. The flashlight turns on automatically, but it's never enough to reassure you. There's no clear objective other than to continue descending, reaching deeper levels, pushing your limits before panicking or something ends the game.

Each playthrough is different. The staircases are procedurally generated, so events such as sounds, shadows, hallucinations, warnings, or jumpscares don't repeat exactly. Sometimes you hear footsteps behind you, other times you feel as if someone is standing very close, and at other moments, you experience a flickering flashlight and your heart pounding, forcing you to question whether you should continue descending.

SCP-087: Into the Abyss doesn't try to scare you with fast-paced action or gore. The fear here comes from repetition, from the increasing tension with each step, and from constantly hearing something but never being sure where it is. You don't know if you're getting closer to the truth or just digging deeper into your own fear.

Ultimately, this isn't the kind of game that asks you to win or lose. It only asks how long you can endure. And sometimes, taking another step is a very difficult decision. After exploring the unsettling atmosphere of this game, you can continue your experience with That Level Again.
