OMORI is a psychological role-playing game, often compared to Undertale in terms of form, but with a much heavier and more complex storyline. It's not a game for everyone. The game opens with gentle yet unsettling visuals and seemingly harmless, reassuring words, gradually drawing the player into a strange world between dream and reality.

The Dream World and the Real World

OMORI exists in two parallel worlds. One is a colorful world where Omori and his friends Aubrey, Kel, Hero, Mari, and Basil adventure through fantastical lands. The other is the real world, where the main character is actually Sunny, a reclusive boy who has lived almost completely isolated from society for many years.

The dream world is bright, with gentle music and familiar characters. But the deeper you go, the more bizarre details and darkness emerge. Conversely, the real world is cold, gloomy, and haunting, directly reflecting Sunny's mental state.

OMORI Game Story

The story revolves around a group of six once-close friends. After Mari's death, everything falls apart. Sunny isolates herself at home for years, while the other members change in different ways. Aubrey becomes violent and distant, Basil lives in fear, and Kel and Hero try to move on with their lives.

Omori, the entity that appears in Sunny's dreams, is created to conceal the painful truth that Sunny dares not face. Whenever true memories are about to be revealed, Omori will try to erase or distort them.

How to play OMORI

OMORI's gameplay is a turn-based RPG, combined with a unique emotion system. Characters can be happy, sad, angry, or afraid, and each state directly affects combat. The game isn't overly difficult mechanically, but it puts a lot of psychological pressure on the player.

Boss battles, especially in the latter half of the game, are not only gameplay challenges but also symbolic of buried fears and memories.

Atmosphere and Message

OMORI begins as a beautiful dream but becomes increasingly heavy and suffocating as you play. At its core is a story of guilt, loss, and confronting the truth. The game presents players with a difficult question: continue to escape in safe dreams or accept the pain to move forward.

OMORI is a deeply emotional, sad, and haunting experience. This is not a lighthearted entertainment game but a journey to confront the dark corners of the human mind. If you are prepared for a heavy but meaningful story, OMORI is a game well worth experiencing.

Interestingly, for players who want a complete contrast after OMORI’s emotional weight, a simple and chaotic multiplayer game like You vs Homer offers a reminder that games can also exist purely for fast, pressure-free fun without psychological depth.
