The Body Monstrous is a really creepy psychological horror game where you have to deal with your own body and all the weird stuff that happens in your daily life. Things get pretty chaotic around this house and inside our main guy's head.
The game puts you in the shoes of a character who is battling a mysterious illness. They are stuck in this never-ending loop of pain and feel completely alone. You wake up in a dark basement. You also have to deal with oddities like watering plants and a cold thing in the basement.
Things get really complicated, really fast, as the physical and mental pain keeps piling up, making it harder and harder to stay calm. The entire game serves as a stark metaphor for confronting your own physical limitations and navigating the unseen challenges we all encounter.
You'll go through the days of the protagonist, doing normal things like taking your medicine, keeping your plants alive, trying to work, and even chatting with your neighbors. But here's the cool thing: all of these normal activities become infused with an underlying tension and anxiety as the horror elements start to kick in.
Get the watering can: First, you'll need to get the watering can from the kitchen cupboard. Don't be silly and miss any of the thirsty plants scattered around.
Water them: Once you have water, start watering them so those leafy green friends don't die. This step isn't just a chore; it's like a little breather from all the creepy vibes.
Starting the computer: You'll be glued to your computer, trying to finish an article you've been putting off forever. However, just as you find your rhythm, a sudden disruption occurs. Something strange happens and you're pulled out of your work.
Body screaming: Even though you're trying to be productive, your body will be in real pain (literally). The pain and fatigue will make you take breaks and have deep talks, which may not be fun.
Meeting people: One of the strangest parts of the game is interacting with the people around you, especially the old lady who lives nearby. These conversations seem normal at first, but occasionally she gives some perplexing advice or warnings.
Helping out: One of your "quests" is to help the old lady change a light bulb. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. It just makes you feel more exhausted and takes you further away from whatever is actually going on.
Feeding time: Throughout the game, you have to go down to the basement and “feed” this monstrous creature. Each time you go down there, the tension builds and you can feel your body getting more and more tired.
Pain cycle: Fatigue and pain become the main gameplay as you continue to “feed” this thing. It’s like you’re stuck in this endless loop, which probably means there’s something profound about being trapped in your own chaotic body.
The Body Monstrous isn’t just a scare game; it also delves into the inner emotions and battles we have with ourselves. This game, with its classic RPG Maker style and surprisingly deep characters, transports you on a thrilling and tense journey where every decision can lead to truly chaotic outcomes. Yes, prepare to be terrified, but remember, sometimes the scariest monster is the one staring into the mirror.
And if you like mind-bending games like this, then Flies in a Jar is another game you definitely shouldn't miss.
