Sophia is a psychological horror game developed on the RPG Maker platform. The game has a cute and sweet appearance but hides a dark story inside, exploring the themes of memory, trauma, human experimentation and time loops.

Sophia Brief plot

The player takes on the role of an unnamed character (Crow), who goes to a friend's house named Foo for dinner and a chat. At first, the game feels like a light, cosy date with lovely dialogue and an intimate atmosphere.

However, things quickly change when the player begins to realise that the events from that night are repeating themselves. The déjà vu moments become more and more obvious, and the warm little house suddenly becomes stuffy and mysterious.

Deja Vu gameplay

  • The player can move freely in the house, explore objects and read dialogues.
  • The details in the environment change with each loop, leading the player to discover mysterious clues.
  • Items such as flashlights, books, combination locks, and photographs play an important role in solving puzzles.
  • Sophia fools the player with a gentle atmosphere from the beginning, with soothing background music and sound effects that give a sense of peace. But that sweetness is a mask that hides the horror that awaits behind.

The most haunting point in the game lies in the way it utilises déjà vu as a central part of the gameplay. Every time the character fails to find Foo or simply falls asleep, the time loop starts over again. However, not everything returns to its original state. The house's objects move randomly, conversations shift slightly, and memories that once seemed buried gradually resurface. The more the game repeats, the more the player loses control—not knowing what is reality and what is illusion.

Foo's identity

It is clear from the game's notes and documents that Foo is not a real person.

The boy could be the result of a scientific experiment conducted by a secret research team, including a scientist named Sophia. The team used electrical impulses to stimulate the brain in order to create artificial memories in the test subjects.

The game has a very surprising twist at the end. Explore the game and uncover this secret. Discover more horror games on our site, one of them is Scare Dare - The Abandoned House.
