Maneater is a storytelling-focused indie horror game where everything starts with the ordinary… then slowly slides in an unexpected direction. The game doesn't rely on fast-paced action or constant jumpscares but focuses on character psychology, dialogue, and the unsettling feeling that permeates every small detail.

You follow Lillian on what seems like a peaceful day amidst a world in chaos due to demons and a newly opened gate to hell.

Maneater's Storyline

A Normal Morning

The day begins with you preparing breakfast for Natalia. A carefully made plate of pancakes, a gentle greeting—everything feels familiar, like a relationship that exists. But from the very first lines of dialogue, you can sense the disharmony. Natalia isn't really there, at least not in the way Lillian wants.

When worry gradually turns into obsession

Outside, the news talks about demons, about horrific disappearances. Lillian wants to stay home and wants them both to stay away from danger. But Natalia still decides to leave to return to the academy, to take care of her students. From here, Lillian's thoughts begin to weigh heavily. Not just worry… but also a feeling of being left behind. You begin to wonder:Does she really love me as much as I thought?

The truth behind love

The story gradually builds to a climax as the boundary between love and possessiveness blurs. Words, thoughts, and emotions accumulate, ultimately leading to a moment that completely turns everything upside down.

What you believed to be love… may never have been human. And when the truth is revealed, it's not only terrifying because of its nature but also because you've been with it all along.

How to Play Maneater

Maneater is a simple visual novel, focusing on dialogue and following the story's progression. Players primarily interact by:

  • Tap to continue dialogue and internal monologues.
  • Observing expressions and speech to better understand the characters' psychology
  • Making a few small choices during gameplay (if any)

The game doesn't require skill but demands attention to detail and a sense of the story. The more you pay attention, the sooner you'll realize something is wrong.

Maneater is a short experience but enough to leave a lasting unease. It doesn't try to scare you immediately but makes you realize things are gradually going wrong… until there's no turning back. If you enjoy psychological horror stories where human emotions are distorted in a very realistic yet chilling way, then this is a game worth trying.

And if you want to continue exploring strange stories in a different way, perhaps a gentler but no less haunting one, try Not Just This.
