Horror Tale 2: Samantha is a game that takes you back to a small village filled with mysteries: disappearing children, men in rabbit masks, and dolls with seemingly penetrating eyes. In Horror Tale 2, players play as Tom (or a Sam pretending to be a friend), who is imprisoned in cells resembling a medieval prison and must find a way to escape—while following clues to save Samantha, the missing girl.

Horror Tale 2: Samantha Setting and Story

The game continues the haunting feeling of the previous Horror Tale: Harry was captured and turned into a doll; now Samantha is the new victim you must save. You wake up in a cold cell, with rats and cockroaches running everywhere, the space so cramped that it makes your partner in crime Billy panic. The diary entries in the cell tell of hunger, fear, and a hopeless prayer—"God, I'd give anything for some peanut butter right now."

The catcher has a rabbit mask, acts strangely—sometimes turning friends into wooden dolls—and holds the keys to everything. The space stretches between barns, tunnels, farms, and old schools; you must piece together memories and use objects you find (shovels, lockpicks, gears, walkie-talkies…) to open escape routes and face the truth.

Gameplay & main mechanics of Horror Tale 2: Samantha

  • Explore and solve puzzles: move in cells, dig tunnels, find locks, install gears, and open locked doors. Multiple doors, mazes of tunnels and different exits create the feeling of a place larger than you think.
  • Collect objects & use them wisely: shovels for digging, lockpicks for unlocking, and walkie-talkies for communicating with Sam; items are scattered throughout the farm, classrooms, and infirmary (there are clues about sleeping pills).
  • Hiding & hiding: the captor appears suddenly—you can try to hide, hide in the bushes, or run away, but it's not always safe.
  • Interact with NPCs/inner thoughts: read fellow prisoners' diaries, hear Sam's story about seeing friends turned into dolls, and use dialogue to reveal plot secrets.

Game Features

  • The plot develops gradually in horror: at first it's childish, teasing friends, then gradually revealing the creepy details—Harry stitching together, friends turning into dolls, and diary entries half-confused, half-accepting of fate.
  • A web of clues for the player to decipher: a doll eye stuck inside the doll, light coming from the well, a message on paper from mom, notes investigating a strange teenager where your rabbit mask is spotted
  • Dark, oppressive atmosphere: cold cage, cockroaches everywhere, feelings of hunger, fear, and despair

Tones & Expected Experience

  • Indie + creepy: focus on atmosphere, small details, and quiet fear rather than pure jump scares.
  • Relatable feeling: you're not a superhero—you're a scared kid trying to get through the night, trying to find the key and hoping for a miracle.
  • Continuous challenge: moments of supposed escape are actually limited (escape one cell, still enter another).

You come to Horror Tale 2: Samantha to find your friends, and the deeper you go, the more you realize that the story is not simply about kidnapping. Dolls, bunny masks, and tattered letters lead to a chilling question: “Who is really playing this game with us?”

You can experience the sequel to the game in Horror Tale 3: The Witch or embark on a terrifying experience with the school setting in Haunted School 2.
