Devil’s Liminal is a game about youth touching darkness. In this game, you do not just enter a Yuri horror story; you are lost in a soul-chilling summer.
You play as Margo, a young girl who has just graduated from boarding school, returning to the poor residential area where she used to live—a place full of old, dark memories and wounds that have never healed. Her father is dead. Her mother is far away. And a cramped summer awaits her in an old straw house on the edge of town.
Everything seems to go smoothly until Margo meets a childhood friend—and a strange cat, which is not a cat. From there, she is drawn into a series of confusing memories and strange dreams about hungry ghosts, blood curses and a devilish contract that she herself signed—although she can’t remember when.
What makes Devil’s Liminal special is the seamless blend of everyday life and the supernatural. You’ll go to work, chat with friends, and build delicate love relationships—but behind everything are nightmares, summoning rituals, and ghosts that haunt your every breath.
This work is more than just a horror visual novel—it’s a symphony of pain, memory, and forgiveness. Aspects such as poverty, broken families, and childhood trauma are explored realistically but not forced, thanks to the author’s background—who studied and researched post-disaster psychology.
The game is inspired by Azores legends, Buddhism, and even the Faustian script, where the demons are not necessarily evil but rather beings full of lust, jealousy, and desire. Volcanic caves leading to hell, grimoires bought from a thrift store, and a strange cat inspired by the developer’s pet all combine to create a creepy yet emotional atmosphere.
Devil’s Liminal is a game for those who want to feel a deep, haunting, and creepy story like a bad dream that lasts all summer. If you love personal scary games, this is a world you should not miss. Check out Dark Loop if you like puzzle horror.
