The Penjikent Creature is a short, simple, yet haunting indie horror game. You play as a man who wakes up in a strange house in what appears to be Penjikent—a real town in Tajikistan. No instructions, no map, no background music. There is only silence, darkness, and unexpected sounds.

How to play The Penjikent Creature

Fractured Memory and the Name Bertha

The game doesn’t tell a clear story; however, through the main character’s vague dialogue, you gradually realize
He has lost his memory and doesn’t remember who he is or why he is here.
A name keeps popping into his head: Bertha—his dead, or maybe non-existent, sister.
There’s something wrong with this house. The house appears to be alive with energy. It appears as though there is an observer present.
Internal monologues reveal the story.
“I don’t remember how I got into this house…”
“Bertha is my sister… I think…”
“I have to get out of here. I have to figure out what’s going on.”

The House Will Teach You How to Play

The gameplay is simple
Use WASD to move and the mouse to rotate the view.
Interact with objects with the left mouse button.
Find clues like keys, notes, or suspicious objects to unlock new rooms.
Play in a quiet space to fully appreciate it.
The duration is short—about 10–20 minutes—but don't rush it. The game's core is a feeling of haunting, isolation, and confusion

The Penjikent Creature is not for people who like fast action or sudden scares. It 's for people who want to immerse themselves in a strange, lonely and shadowy space. But if you want strange and funny experiences, Grumace is the next game you should try.
