KIOSK is a first-person horror game set in a small, nighttime food stall where the player takes on the role of a new employee who has just started working after their predecessor mysteriously disappeared. The job sounds simple: serve hot dogs, burgers, coffee, soda, and gradually more items to customers who visit on cold, rainy nights.

KIOSK Gameplay

The focus of KIOSK is on preparing and serving food as requested: grilling sausages, frying burgers, adding toppings, pouring drinks, and delivering orders in the correct order. Players can prepare ingredients in advance to save time, but as the game progresses, the number of dishes and requirements increases, forcing you to manage your kitchen space efficiently.

Atmosphere and Horror Construction

The game doesn't rely heavily on direct jump scares from the start but instead creates a scary feeling through:

  • Customers appearing in the middle of the night with strange, gloomy dialogue
  • Notes left by previous employees, revealing fears of being followed
  • Repeated phrases like "stay safe" are becoming increasingly suspicious.
  • Moments where the player cannot or dares not turn around

The familiar environment of a fast-food counter gradually becomes suffocating, especially when the lights flicker or the power goes out, forcing the player to use a flashlight and fix the circuit breaker in the dark.

KIOSK Characters and Underlying Story

The customers are not just patrons but also serve as storytellers: from weary workers, missing persons investigators, clowns, and strangers speaking vaguely to those with threatening attitudes. Through fragmented dialogues, players gradually piece together the story of the former employee, the mysterious death, and the strange connection to the food counter itself.

Pace and Experience

KIOSK creates tension by alternating between a steady pace and sudden moments that shatter the sense of security. Players are forced to focus on their work, while the feeling of someone lurking behind them is ever-present, even when nothing is happening.

KIOSK is a slow-paced psychological horror experience that effectively exploits the contrast between everyday work and unseen fear. The game makes players question their surroundings, question what is normal, and fully utilizes the feeling of insecurity when having to continue working even as things increasingly go wrong. After completing this challenge, you can explore the world of Jolly Entertainment in Jolly 3: Chapter 2.
