Sprunki Banana Porridge is the kind of mod that's instantly noticeable. It's not because the gameplay has changed, but because everything has been completely reanimated. The characters no longer stand still like in the original but move continuously, with depth, giving you the feeling of being in an animated film rather than a game.
In normal mode, everything is still quite fun: Mr. Sun is tiny, Mr. Tree is unusually large, and characters like Simon and Pinky have clear animations of every movement. You can even see their entire bodies, not limited like in the old version.
When you turn on black hat (horror mode), the entire cast of characters transforms in a very direct way: some characters can see through you, some have glitchy 360-degree eye rotations, some are injured, some are burned...
Drag and drop to create music, but this time you'll… see more than you hear. The gameplay is still drag-and-drop with characters to create beats, like Incredibox. Each character represents a layer of sound. But the problem is: it's difficult to focus on the music. Because the animation is so detailed, your eyes will be constantly drawn in. The music continues to play, but your brain switches to observation mode.
When horror mode is enabled, the game almost completely changes its vibe. The feeling of building beats is gone. You start noticing the ghostly and terrifying movements of the characters. It feels like the game is deliberately showing you things that the original always hid.
Sprunki Banana Porridge isn't a mod meant to be played for a long time. It's the kind of experience you'll remember after just one try. The strongest impression isn't the music, but the way it shifts everything from beautiful and smooth to surprising and terrifying.
If you like games that start simply but become increasingly addictive and hard to control as you play, then you might want to try Scritchy Scratchy — where everything also revolves around a repetitive action… but this time it’s scratching until your hand can’t take it anymore.
