In Flicker, you have only one tool to fight the darkness: a weak, flickering lighter, controlled by the single Space key. This super short game—only about 5 minutes of play—was created by indie developer Spikely in 9 days. And you will soon understand that... that is enough to make you jump a few times.
The entire gameplay revolves around a simple operation: press Space repeatedly to light the fire and move forward. But the problem is, you are not in a safe place. The wind can blow out the fire at any moment. Strange footsteps echo through the trees. Gravestones rise and fall as if controlled by someone. Shadowy faces flash in the air—and each time, the lighter becomes harder to light.
From a broken branch to a rabbit running by, even the sound of your typing becomes suspicious. You never know what’s waiting for you—a deer charging at you or a ghost appearing just as you see the light.
Flicker doesn’t require any complex skills, but it’s incredibly effective at creating a sense of loss of control and constant tension—something that many blockbuster horror games can’t even do in 5 minutes.
If you've experienced the horror scenes in May I Take Your Order, Flicker will continue to test your endurance, but this time, it only has a weak lighter and a dark space that is chilling.
