Dress Me Down begins as a basic game of dressing up. A girl named Marion begs you to assist her pick out an outfit for her first date. You look through clothes and mix and match tops, skirts, shoes, and socks to make the perfect outfit. At first, everything looks simple. Just pick out some outfits, try on a few different styles, and help Marion get ready for her date. But that sensation of normalcy doesn't stay long.
Players pick on a shirt or skirt, pants or bottoms, and then add shoes and other things. Marion leaves to meet her date after finishing her dress. The story goes on and on, going back to the beginning each time you choose an outfit.
Marion shows up again after the first date and invites you to pick out an outfit again. But this time, things start to feel off. She says things like, "I have to make him love me" and "He'll be happy if I wear what he likes."
The player slowly comes to the conclusion that the dates are anything but typical. Every time Marion departs, things get worse.
As the loop goes on, the conversation shows that Marion is stuck in a bad and abusive relationship. She thinks that if she becomes a decent girl, everything would be fine, so she attempts to modify herself to make the other person happy. But the truth is much harsher.
Controlling words, manipulation, and violence slowly start to show themselves, making it clear that Marion is in a perilous situation that she can't get out of. There is only one ending to the short game Dress Me Down. The game doesn't give you a lot of options or varied courses. Instead, it tells a tragic story of how wounded and dependent people can be in a poisonous relationship.
The actual horror comes behind the scenes of the date, even if Dress Me Down is all about picking out outfits. The tale gets darker and worse as you keep picking out clothes for Marion until the truth comes out. If you want to switch to escape games, we have Five Nights at Digital Circus.
