December 18, 1978, 8:00 p.m.

You are a night detective, just turned on your desk lamp when you receive a strange call from your superiors: a car accident on Repost Road, in the hills near Lexington Street. The caller is a young patrolman—David McCart, just entering the force.

At the scene, the victim, Bradley Frasier, is dead on the spot. It would seem that the accident was self-inflicted if the car's brakes had not been cut in a sophisticated way and the drink in the car did not contain strange powder.
