Big Bad Dogs is a Yandere dating sim that mixes romance, comedy and disturbing undertones. You are Yini, a young woman working the nite shift at a convenience store. The job is generally dull, but things get weird after visits by a threatening customer and a mysterious biker.
The game tells its story in a very relaxed manner, and the romantic moments are often interrupted by unexpected jokes. But in the midst of the comedy is a story of a sequence of disappearances that have haunted the city – and it looks like some characters know more than they’re telling.
Yini works in a 24-hour convenience store. She does the usual nite shift stuff stocking shelves, running the register, cleaning up. Lane, her colleague, keeps popping up with a slouch and random, sometimes infuriating, comments.
At first it was just another ordinary shift, but then a customer began asking overly personal questions and putting relentless pressure on Yini.
The customer brings up recent disappearances. The victims share a chilling commonality: many of them also worked night shifts at stores, diners, or gas stations.
This information changes how Yini views her own shift; the city at 2:00 AM no longer feels merely quiet—it feels different.
Lane has been working alongside Yini for some time. He boasts an attractive appearance and a confident demeanor, along with a unique knack for getting under people's skin. But when Yini gets into trouble, it is Lane who steps in to help. They have a complicated relationship, a mix of teasing, bickering and surprising amounts of tenderness that keepps drawing them closer together.
A new customer then comes into the shop. He wears black, has tattoos on his arms and a helmet that covers his entire face.
Interestingly, his appearance is very different from his behavior. He's tall and a little bit intimidating, but he's clumsy enough to knock over a whole carton of ramen. Their first meeting is weird but cute, because he is blunt and awkward.
Yini soon discovers there’s more to this biker than meets the eye. And as the missing person reports start rolling in, that curiosity starts to take a dangerous turn.
Big Bad Dogs allows players to navigate various relationships through dialogue choices. Even a small response can change the character's reaction or the direction of the story.
Humor is often included in romantic scenes, sometimes to relieve tension in serious moments. The result is that a scene with the promise of romance can turn absurd or hilarious in a flash.
The real mystery of the story is what lies beneath the surface. Rumors of missing victims, strange behavior from the characters, and small hints from Yini's own life begin to converge. Big Bad Dogs has tons of stuff to check out if you like story-driven games where you can take your time building up relationships. It hits the sweet spot of romance, comedy and mystery. Another interesting choice for an indie title with a unique style is The Art Shop.
Big Bad Dogs begins with a routine shift, stocking shelves, handling ramen boxes, and dealing with an unsettling customer. Yet, by the end of the night, things have become far more complicated. That biker’s helmet is likely just one of many things Yini has yet to discover about him.
