Bendy and the Ink Machine is a horror adventure game with a dark cartoon style. Players take on the role of Henry, an animator who returns to his friend Joey's old studio after 30 years. At first glance, this is just an abandoned studio, but the deeper you go, the creepier and more mysterious things become.
The game begins with a letter from Joey to Henry, inviting him back to the studio with the promise of something special. When entering, the player sees familiar images such as old desks, cartoon drawings and posters promoting the cartoon character Bendy and his friends, like Little Devil Darlin' or Sheep Songs. However, the gloomy atmosphere and the slogan "Dreams Come True" make everything suspicious.
The player quickly discovers the Ink Machine – a strange machine placed in the middle of the studio. It is unclear how it works, but to start it, Henry must find many items from all over: books, gears, wrenches, music discs and items related to the animation production past. These items are placed on small altars in the room, like a strange ritual that Joey once forced the staff to perform.
The game creates a constant feeling of horror:
The main mechanics are point & click:
Bendy and the Ink Machine has vintage cartoon-style graphics like early Disney animations but transformed to become distorted and haunting. The gloomy music, dripping ink, and unexpected sounds make the experience unpredictable.
