A village that seems to be a refuge from the zombie disaster turns into a battlefield where Leon has to fight for his life. In Resident Evil 4: Beat Em Up, the villagers will act as berserker attackers, making any place a potential threat zone. In this iteration, players are tossed into a series of rapid-fire encounters that combine arcade-style shooting with melee combat.
Players must adapt to the fast pace and the relentless succession of skirmishes. Leon cannot simply navigate the village; he must contend with enemies blocking his path. Every encounter forces players to decide whether to attack immediately, stay back, or play defensively to avoid being overrun.
The beat-'em-up style places the focus squarely on action. Instead of spending most of your time searching for clues, you will constantly deal with immediate threats while trying to advance to the next area. The sensation of fighting through a crowd of enemies creates a dynamic, immediate gameplay loop, perfect for fans of fast-paced action games.
Guns are good to shoot down enemies before they get too close. However, relying only on ranged attacks is not always the best strategy. Depending on your surroundings and the number of opponents, you should decide when to use your weapons.
Leon has direct melee attacks to deal damage without having to keep relying on firearms if the opponents get close enough. The ability to switch between shooting and close combat provides some flexibility to the fight, especially if you have several opponents at the same time.
On-screen controls allow players to execute basic combat maneuvers, including both attacking and defending. Don't just mash the attack button: knowing when to dodge or wait for a counterattack opportunity is just as important as dealing damage.
Leon’s journey involves getting through dangerous areas and defeating the enemies that stand in his way. The familiar Resident Evil setting helps create a sense of unease, while the action-oriented gameplay turns each encounter into a test of reflexes. This is a great game for those who like simple combat, easy controls and levels where the goal is obvious.
Note: Resident Evil 4: Beat Em Up is an arcade-style game and not the official Resident Evil 4 title from Capcom.
